"poems from my father" is a project that incorporates found materials, anonymous figurative photography and language.

my father, Stanley Sourelis, was an abstract painter living and working in central Mexico at the time of his death a number of years ago. My visit to clean out his studio resulted in an abundance of drawings, paintings, exhibition posters and several sketch books.

it wasn’t until several years later that I opened one small, purple sketch book to find that it contained not sketches, but bits and pieces of unwritten poems; almost all of them about love, relationships and lost opportunities.

"poems from my father" incorporates these bits of poetry with anonymous black and white images, found materials including used silk screen, paper and cardboard, and sometimes bits of screen and fabric. There are currently 15 pieces in the series, each measuring 17” x 11”.
